Very collectible lithograph poster for ''The Great Mexican War'', a pseudo-documentary made in 1914 to feed American interest in the Mexican Revolution. The film was made by Charles A. Pryor, a self proclaimed doctor and Associated Press reporter, who would prove himself to be neither, having inflated his credentials in order to secure the film rights to Pancho Villa's story. His resulting documentary is advertised here, although the film was never seen as Pryor was arrested for grand larceny before he delivered it to movie theaters. The movie poster is therefore one of the only remaining testaments to the early film, a ''4 Reels in Motion Pictures'', a grandiose production matched by the scale of the poster, measuring 41.25'' x 81.25''. The film was made to feed American interest in the Mexican Revolution, then taking place on its southern border, showcasing revolutionary Pancho Villa. Three sheet poster printed by San Francisco's Schmidt Litho. Co., as noted at bottom, and made by Pryor's El Paso Feature Film Co. Lithographic poster is backed to linen, in unusually well preserved condition with bright colors. Overall very good plus condition. A spectacular and very early movie poster, with one of the more interesting back stories, even by Hollywood standards.
