Autograph letter signed ''Sam. F.B. Morse'' by the inventor of the single-wire telegraph and Morse code. Datelined ''Po'keepsie'' 8th August 1854, letter urges Morse's patron Samuel Colgate, Esq. to refrain from supporting ''pirates'' of his inventions at the annual meeting of the New York Albany & Buffalo Telegraph Company. It reads in part: ''...My friends in Utica warn me against...Mr. B. the Prest. who...seems determined to carry out his ruinous project...you would be rising your vote against me & my interests most disastrously in supporting the plausible plan proposed by B. and the House pirates...'' Single page measures 7.75'' x 9.75''. Creasing and minor bleeding to ink. Very good.
