WWII General George S. Patton includes detail and humor in an autograph letter signed to his mother. ''Old Blood and Guts'' writes on stationery from the Mounted Service School, where he taught from 1912-1913. In part, ''Dear Mama: Sundays here are like Sheridan or a grave yard I never saw anything so quiet it is fierce and hard to get used to I fear I will get fat I have in fact gained already. We have a brown house like the one at Sheridan...the bath tub is so small that you have to wash half at a time. I have been painting it a little at a time. The house not the tub, and it looks better now...I have been able to take the riding course with the class...If there is not room for you all at the house there is a hotel in Junction City...it is perfectly dead just now and will be until the 13th Cav. comes back. There is a regiment of artillery here but they are of no use socially. With much love, your devoted son, George S. Patton Jr.'' 4pp. letter in black ink on blue card-style stationery measures 5.5'' x 7''. Toning and creasing, else near fine.
