British General John Burgoyne signs a draft note, dated 25 October 1790, with instructions to ''...pay to Mr. Henry Phillott on order one Hundred & fifty pounds value received...'' He signs, ''J. Burgoyne''. He is writing from Bath, the location of Phillott's Bear Inn and the note is addressed to Nathaniel Collyer, Esquire, of Leicester Square, London. General Burgoyne is best known to Americans for his surrender at Saratoga during the American Revolution. He died in London two years after the date of this document. The 8'' x 3.25'' draft bears a blindstamped one shilling revenue stamp. Small tears and paper loss to edge of document; very good.
