Nicolas Charles Oudinot, Marshal of France under Napoleon, signs a document, dated 12 July 1814, granting Lt. Fare a medical leave of absence. Oudinot, who distinguished himself in the Battles of Austerlitz and Wagram and in Napoleon's Russian campaign, signs in the left margin. Upon Napoleon's abdication, Oudinot's loyalties remained with Louis XVIII, during whose reign this document was signed. His loyalty was rewarded with a peerage. Light toning to 8'' x 12.5'' document, else near fine.
