Preliminary illustration by American artist Garth Williams for an early scene in E.B. White's 1952 children's book "Charlotte's Web." In this pencil drawing, Fern, based on Williams' own daughter, tries to prevent her father from killing a newborn piglet, who would become her pet, Wilbur. Williams has written "face" with a check mark next to the farmer's face. He initials the 8.5" x 11" drawing "GW" at the bottom and numbers it "3.16332" on the verso. Minor creasing, else near fine condition.
