''An Appeal to the People of Massachusetts on the Texas Question'' by George Allen. Boston: Little and Brown: 1844. 20pp. pamphlet by abolitionist George Allen encourages Massachusetts to oppose the annexation of Texas as a slave state. A minister from Shrewsbury, Allen helped his brother Charles found the short-lived Free Soil Party. Despite his efforts, in 1845 Texas was annexed as the 28th state, with a constitution allowing for slavery. Pamphlet measures 5.75'' x 9''. Small tape mark to cover and some soiling. Very good plus.
