Autograph letter signed by suffragist Belva Ann Lockwood on 30 April 1903. Lockwood writes in black ink to Mark Bennitt, publicity director of the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair: ''Please deliver letter addressed to me and bearer Mrs. Victoria Coukling Whitney [written in pencil over other name] and oblige.'' Lockwood signs her name as ''Belva A. Lockwood''. In addition to fighting for women's rights, Lockwood became one of the first female lawyers in the United States and the very first woman to appear on the Presidential ballot. Letter has been glued to second page, with both pages having notes written in pencil. Measures 5.75'' x 7''. Heavy creasing and small tears to left edge, overall good condition.
