Olympic torch from the 1972 Olympic Torch Relay. The Torch Relay tradition was begun in 1928, where a spark from the parent flame in Olympia, Greece ignites the torch that begins the Relay, ending in the host city in time for the opening ceremonies, in this case Munich, Germany on 26 August 1972. Three piece torch manufactured by Krupp easily screws together, featuring handle with '''Munchen 1972 Spiele der XX. Olympiade''' engraved and with Krupp logo underneath. Handle screws below larger circular torch base with textured design, with an additional rod affixing to its top, allowing the flame to be lit from the tip. Housed in original styrofoam box. Measures 29.5'' long. Black discoloration to top from use, otherwise near fine condition.
