James Polk autograph letter signed, datelined Columbia, 26 May 1837 as Speaker of the House of Representatives. Addressed to Col. Samuel H. Laughlin, Polk is attempting to put Laughlin in touch with James Walker of Nashville who can help him out with his ''business'', the nature of which is unclear. Polk then signs his full name, ''James K. Polk'' in black ink and also initials his postscript, ''J.K.P.''. 2pp. letter measures 7.75'' x 9.75''. A few ink smears and light discoloration, overall very good condition.
