James Madison and James Monroe signed land grant from 1812, as President and Secretary of State respectively. Dated 20 April 1812, Madison grants a parcel of land to a John Townsend in ''the territory north west of the Ohio, and above the mouth of Kentucky''. With existing paper seal to lower left. Document measures 14.25'' x 9.5'', framed to an overall size of 19.75'' x 15''. Tears in paper where intersecting folds meet, and some foxing and discoloration. Overall good condition.
