John F. Kennedy china used aboard the ''Honey Fitz'' yacht during his presidency. Though Presidents Truman, Eisenhower and Nixon also used the 92-foot watercraft, it was JFK's heavily photographed leisure time entertaining his family onboard that made the elegant ship an American icon. Kennedy bestowed the moniker ''Honey Fitz'' on the vessel in honor of his grandfather. Jackie Kennedy did not replace the Presidential china when her husband took office, preferring to restore the historical china to practical use. Therefore, this plate, as part of the yacht china, was also used during the Eisenhower administration, and perhaps Truman's as well. Eggshell-color salad plate measures 6.75'' in diameter, with a height of just over an inch. Design features double bands of 24K gold trim and a single eagle seal between two five-point stars. Maker's mark of ''Shenango China / New Castle, PA'' appears on underside. Slight fading to trim, as well as a small chip to underside. Very good.
