Letter signed by James Garfield, Samuel Randall, Nathaniel Banks and Alexander Stephens on 19 January 1878, all signed at the conclusion of the letter handwritten by Stephens. Composed on stamped House of Representatives letterhead, letter reads in part, ''...members of this Committee on Rules of the House of Representatives do hereby express our choice of [General] Albert Ordway...'' Single page measures 5'' x 8''. Top 1'' is affixed to separate piece of paper by glue as it was taken from a scrapbook. Toning and foxing, overall good plus condition.
