Great American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow handwrites the fourth stanza of his famous poem "A Psalm of Life" on a slip of paper and signs it, "Henry W. Longfellow". It reads: "Art is long and time is fleeting, / And our hearts though stout and brave, / Still like muffled drums are beating / Funeral marches to the grave. / Henry Wadsworth Longfellow / November 18, 1950". Measures 7" x 3.25". Toning, folds, and tape remnants to verso, else near fine. A 4" x 4.75" engraving of Longfellow is included.
