William Howard Taft typed letter signed early in his Presidency, on 16 April 1909. Upon White House stationery, Taft writes to Arthur Leland of New York, ''...My dear Mr. Leland / I have your letter of April 15th and have transmitted the same to the Secretary of the Navy for consideration...[signed] Wm H Taft''. Single page measures 7'' x 9''. Creasing and light soiling; very good condition. With unrelated envelope sent from Taft's Post-Presidency home in New Haven, Connecticut, postmarked 11 December 1916.
