Autograph letter signed by Elizabeth the Queen Mother, sent from Buckingham Palace on 27 April 1948. Written on Buckingham Palace stationery, letter was sent to Margaret Douglas, the wife of Lewis Douglas, the U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom from 1947 to 1950 and whose family formed a close relationship with the royal family. Letter reads, ''My dear Mrs. Douglas / The King & I are so very touched by your kindness in sending us such a charming silver wedding present, and I write to say how grateful we are for your thought of us. The little boxes are angelic, and we shall always cherish them - With all my thanks to all. I am, yours very sincerely / Elizabeth R''. Original envelope included, hand-addressed and initialed by the Queen Consort. 2pp. letter on one sheet measures 5'' x 8'', with the envelope measuring 5.25'' x 4.5''. One mailing fold. Very good to near fine.
