Unique ''49er'' autograph letter signed ''NH Wyse'', dated 1 December 1849 from San Francisco. Letter, addressed to Wyse's sister, reads in part: ''I hope that you will not think that I have taken leave of my senses...since 28th July 1848...I want to know how much I have spent that I have given to you. I have no account...I mean the gold sent the first time & the small package of gold sent...'' One page letter, measuring 8.25'' x 10.75'', includes an integral address panel with a New York postal cancellation dated 13 January. Near fine condition.
