Amazing lot of documents from a famous incident in which Butch Cassidy was mistakenly presumed dead. After pulling off a robbery on 21 April 1897, Butch Cassidy and his gang ''The Wild Bunch'' were highly sought after as their bodies would garner high rewards. After supposedly spotting Cassidy and other members of his posse on 13 May 1898, an ambush by members of Carbon County, Utah law enforcement ensued, and Cassidy cohort Joe Walker and another man were killed. The second man was presumed to be Butch Cassidy but was later revealed to be Johnny Herring, a different member of Cassidy's gang; it's even said that Butch Cassidy, hiding under a haystack in a wagon, watched his own funeral on May 15. These documents all relate to the incident and include burial expenses, inquest statement and sale of property thought to belong to Cassidy.
