World-famous Italian opera singer Enrico Caruso hand-drawn sketch. Ink and pencil piece is likely one of Caruso's opera contemporaries in character, or possibly an acquaintance. Best known for his signature role as Canio in ''Pagliacci,'' Caruso sang as a tenor at the New York Metropolitan Opera and counted Italian, German and French operas among his repertoire. A pioneer in recorded sound, he was the first to sell a million records at the dawn of the medium. More obscure was his passion for visual art, at which he became quite accomplished over his lifetime. Caruso's distinctive drawing style is evident in this sketch, measuring 4.25'' x 5.75''. Taped to a white mat to an overall size of 5.25'' x 6.25''. Near fine. From a larger collection of art by Caruso.
