Autograph letter signed, dated 5 November 1883 from General Fitz-John Porter to General Joseph Carter Abbott. In part: "My Dear General…No one will know of your opinion or advice except myself…I send you a pamphlet which please let your friends see. It was written & published by a total stranger to me…He wrote the article from papers that of McDowell in San Francisco. The fling at Grant is the only unpleasant thing in the whole…" One sheet, front and verso, measures 5.25" x 7.75". Red pencil notation to front page, else very good.
