General Holland "Howlin' Mad" Smith typed letter signed, dated 30 October 1945. Smith is responding to a signed book request, "…It will give me pleasure to inscribe a few lines over my signature in 'The U.S. Marines on Iwo Jima'…[signed] H.M. Smith". Smith was a General in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and is called the father of modern U.S. amphibious warfare. The letter on "Office of Commanding General" letterhead measures 7.25" x 9.5" in very good condition.
