Langston Hughes signed first edition of ''Shakespeare in Harlem'' published by Alfred A. Knopf, Inc.: New York: 1942. The Harlem Renaissance poet elegantly inscribes the front free endpaper to his known friend, Eulah C. Pharr, whose bookplate is affixed to front pastedown: ''All my best to Eulah -- Sincerely, Langston''. The bottom of the page is datelined ''New York, February 6, 1942'' by Hughes. 124pp. collection of verse celebrating ''Afro-Americana in the blues mood'' is bound in black cloth boards with hot pink lettering. Spine is orange cloth with black lettering. Top edge red. Measures 6'' x 8.5''. Minor toning to leaves and a few pages dog-eared. Rear cloth board has some very minor residue. Overall, very good condition.
