Breviary for the ''Third Sunday After Easter'' circa 1175-1200, and including a homily by the Venerable Bede and a tract by Saint Augustine on Saint John. Also known in the Roman Catholic church as ''Jubilate Sunday'' because in the liturgy, the first line of the introit for that day's mass is ''Jubilate Deo omnis terra'', or ''Shout with joy to God, all the earth'' from Psalm 66 (65). Vellum leaf has 27 lines printed on two columns in brown Romanesque script, with rubrics in red. Decorated with six larger initials, each in red with light blue pen decorations. Also with eleven smaller initials, again in red and blues. Some omissions exist in the text that are added to margins in darker ink from a contemporary hand, identifiable by an inverted red ''v'', as a well as a few corrections within text in two spots. Includes a ''musical neum'' above ''Alleluia'' in line 12 of the right column of verso. 11.25" x 17.25 leaf has been removed from original breviary and was possibly used as a wrapper for a parochial register. Dampstaining and foxing throughout, particularly to upper right corner, as well as an uneven right edge. Very good condition considering age.
