Lengthy ten-page manuscript from the Papacy of Gregory XIII, most likely a copy of a document granting autonomy to the Spanish provinces of Catalonia, Valencia and Aragon. During his papacy, Gregory XIII commissioned the Gregorian calendar, still the accepted civil calendar to date. Document is partially translated: ''After listening to the supplications of the Order of the Minor Friars, both the Reformers and Discalced of the which had already been granted to them by Clement VII. Thus they could continue tranquilly governing their own order in these provinces, in all of their monasteries, houses and all other property, meeting in their general chapters, without the outside influences from anyone else, nor anybody requesting their members be moved to other provinces...'' Measures 8'' x 10.75'' upon 10 pages of card-style stationery, with the first page detached. Paper is soft from age with toning and showthrough, very good condition overall.
1583 Extensive Manuscript Relating to the Papacy of Gregory XIII -- ''... 3 provinces of Catalonia, Valencia, and Aragon, Gregory XIII extends to the them right of autonomy...''
