Nice Harper Lee autograph letter signed, dated 17 December 2008 on her personal ''NLH'' stationery. Letter reads in full: ''My dear Don: So many thanks for the lovely candy! So like you to send something special! I was distressed to read of your family loss. Life goes on, but it doesn't get any easier. I feel for you. My family ties are somewhat unusual. My eldest sister at 97 is in the best shape of all -- she's bright as a new dime, gets around on a walker at 25mph and remembers everything she reads & sees. She has one handicap: she is deaf. Does that stand in her way? Hell, no! She lip-reads better than I can hear. She uses a method of her own invention to offset her handicap, sort of a cross between hand-signaling & semaphore! Our sister Louise at 92 can remember us, but not much more, and that makes me at 82 the most rickety of us. Other than old age and decrepitude, we're fine! I'm just thankful that my sisters are still here. Don, I do wish you a wonderful Christmas with an abundance of good things, for you are a most loved friend.'' Signed clearly ''Nelle'' with a postscript reading: ''Couldn't wait until Christmas! Candy delicious!'' Card measures 5.25'' x 7.5'' on two pages. Includes original postmarked envelope. Fine condition.
