World-famous Italian opera singer Enrico Caruso signed and hand-drawn sketch of himself with fellow opera singer, French bass Pol Plancon. Charcoal drawing of Caruso and Plancon, likely in character, shows Caruso wearing an expression of apparent self-satisfaction, with spirals of smoke wafting up from his mouth. Caruso's distinctive drawing style is evident in this sketch, which he inscribes, ''Enrico Caruso / Buenos Aires / 1917'' at the bottom left. Caruso became heavily involved with WWI charity work that year, and his tour of Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay saw him perform his signature role as Canio in ''Pagliacci'' for the last time in Argentina's Teatro Colon. Matted in white to an overall size of 10.5'' x 14.5''. Viewable area of sketch measures 8.5'' x 12''. Light overall smudging to charcoal and a tiny stain on the bridge of Pol Plancon's nose, else near fine.
