A Nobel Peace Prize winner and the first democratically-elected President of South Africa, Mandela began work on the autobiography during his 27 year stint in a South African prison. 558pp. book measures 6.25'' x 9.5'' with many black and white photographs chronicling Mandela's life. Beautifully bound in green leather boards with gilt design, pink silk-moire endpapers and all edges gilt. Interior printed on acid-neutral paper. With sewn-in silk book marker. Includes COA from publisher Easton Press. The faintest 0.5'' scratch to gilt fore edge, else an extremely handsome edition in fine condition.
