Fabric swatch from The Spirit of St. Louis, the plane flown by Charles Lindbergh in his record-setting non-stop flight from New York to Paris in 1927. Designed by Donald A. Hall of Ryan Airlines, fabric covered the metal fuselage and wooden wings of the single-engine plane, a swatch of which is tucked here into a transparent cover, mounted to a COA from the International Cyclopedia of Aviation Biography. COA reads in part, "…the piece of silverfabric attached herewith was removed from Colonel Charles A. Lindbergh's Ryan monoplane, 'The Spirit of St. Louis' during repairs to the plane after the battering it took during the historic flight…[signed] Charles Hamilton". Swatch measures 0.75" x 0.5". Mounted to letter measuring 8.5" x 11". Some irregularity to fabric edges; near fine.
