Robes worn onscreen by Fredric March and Sir Charles Aubrey Smith in ''The Adventures of Mark Twain''. March, as the great American author dons this red and silver robe during the climactic scene in which he receives an honorary degree from Oxford. Smith, as the Oxfoard Chancellor is costumed in the black robe, which he wears under another gown as he presents March with the degree and delivers an eloquent address on Twain's extraordinary life. Both robes have a United Costumers label sewn in side indicating their custom construction. The label in March's robe has his name handwritten on it, though misspelled as ''Frederick''. Smith's name is typed on the label of his gown. Painstakingly handcrafted costumes are in near fine condition.
