New York Governor George Clinton militia appointment signed. Partly-printed document is datelined Albany, New York, 20 March 1802, appointing Gilbert Van Alen "Lieutenant of a Company…in the County of Columbia." 15.5" x 10" document bears an embossed seal and Governor Clinton's signature with paraph rests in the lower right corner. Toned with minor foxing, overall in very good condition. A nice autographed example of the man who served as New York's first governor.
