Wartime Franklin Delano Roosevelt typed letter signed "F.D.R." as President. Upon White House stationery, FDR's letter dated 6 May 1942 is addressed to Lister Hill, U.S. Senator from Alabama and Democratic Whip. Letter reads in full, "Personal / Dear Lister: Ever so many thanks for sending me John Temple Graves' column in answer to Felix Morley's article in the 'Saturday Evening Post'. Morley is either deliberately writing stuff which rejoices the heart of Hitler or he is a theoretical dreamer who ought not to write at all. With every best wish, Always sincerely." Accompanied by a copy of Sen. Hill's 27 April 1942 letter and an 18 April 1942 issue of the "Saturday Evening Post" in which Morley's article appeared under the title, "For What Are We Fighting". Single-page letter on green-tinted stationery measures approximately 7" x 9". Creasing, else near fine. With original White House envelope.
