Rutherford B. Hayes autograph letter signed, dated 18 July 1885 and marked Private from Fremont, Ohio: "I send you by mail a market copy of the Democratic Messenger. It is a staunch Democratic paper…You will see that its article, -- 'Render unto Ceasar that which is Ceasar's' is a reprint of your friendly and effective editorial and that it is a full endorsement of what you say…I need not say that it is done without my intervention direct or indirect…" Single page letter measures 5.5" x 8.5", in very good condition.
