Harper Lee autograph letter signed, dated 1 January 1997, on a Winslow Homer greeting card. Written to Don Salter, a longtime fan of Lee's, who developed a friendship with the author after years of correspondence. Written in blue ink, letter reads in full: ''Dear Mr. Salter: You are something else again. The whatisit you sent me has had me, my family, and anyone who sees it guessing -- and there have been guesses from a boarding-house individual cruet to a perfume bottle to an opium container. Whatever it is, it is charming, is certainly unique (for I doubt that there'd be a run on 'Harper's' in 19th century England) and in the latest example of your kindness and generosity. Through the years your steadfast loyalty has been such a joy to me -- you are certainly the best friend I have never met! Thank you for you. Love, Harper''. One page card style letter measures 6.25'' x 4.25''. Also includes original envelope with ''Lee'' signature atop her Monroeville return address. Near fine.
Affectionate Harper Lee 1997 Autograph Letter Twice-Signed -- Written on New Year's Day to a Longtime Admirer -- ''...you are certainly the best friend I have never met!...''
