Black fur top hat by Saks & Co. in its original box. Dapper top hat is made of sleek beaver fur with a cream silk lining and tan leather interior band. Stamped inside the crown, ''Saks & Company / Washington, D.C.'' Housed in the original oval-shaped black hat box with label affixed identifying the size as 7 3/8. A portion of the lid's rim is detached, else box is in good condition. Hat measures 6'' in height. The name ''Franklin Dershem / Congress Hall'' is hand written on the leather band. Small section of rubbing to fur along the top edge. Near fine overall. From the family of Franklin Dershem, Congressman from Pennsylvania's 17th Congressional District, who donned the hat on just two occasions: to his swearing-in to Congress in 1913 and to the inauguration of President Woodrow Wilson.
