Respected Union Brevet Major General and Governor of Main Joshua Chamberlain document signed, dated 4 July 1868. State of Maine testimonial commends soldier Mitchell Hunter for his valor during the Civil War. Printed document depicts Chamberlain and other various Civil War leaders, wartime illustrations and reads in part: ''You having borne an honorable part as a Volunteer from the State of Maine in the service of the United States in supporting the Rebellion and thereby maintaining the integrity of the Union...by the authority of the Legislature present you this testimonial to your patriotism fidelity courage...'' Signed boldly and clearly, ''Joshua Chamberlain'' and countersigned by Adjutant General ''John C. Caldwell''. Document measures 17.25'' x 14.5'' with foxing, toning, creasing and one .5'' tear along right edge, else very good.
