21 July 1969 issue of ''The New York Times'' from the day Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin made human history as the first to walk on the moon. The late city edition announces the Eagle has landed in the Sea of Tranquility region, allowing the Apollo 11 astronauts to explore the lunar surface on foot and collect rock samples. The famous planting of the flag is announced as well. The space shuttle Discovery would return the men safely to Earth three days later. Late city edition runs 48pp., including a special supplement detailing the mission. Minor toning throughout, some chips to edges, including a 1'' tear on right edge near headline. Near fine.
