Rare set of Brooklyn Bridge opening ceremony invitation and program. Invitation to the 24 May 1883 celebration is addressed by hand. The focal point of the card is an etching of the suspension bridge stretching across the East River to connect Manhattan and Brooklyn. Its original name, the ''New York and Brooklyn Bridge'' is printed in the largest font. Single-page invitation by Tiffany & Co. measures 9'' x 6.5''. The program lists the events of the ceremony, including an appearance by the President. The trustees, commissioners and engineers on the project are credited within. Runs 4pp., printed by Eagle Print, and measuring 5.75'' x 8.5''. Light toning and staining, and program is detached and separated at the spine, else both are near fine.
