Harry Truman typed letter signed as President, dated 9 January 1951 on official White House stationery. Addressed to the Mayor of Independence, Missouri Robert Weatherford, who helped secure land for the Truman Library, letter reads in full: ''Mrs. Truman and I were delighted to receive that Christmas card from you and your family. It is always so pleasant to be remembered by our good friends of Independence and in thanking you for your thoughtfulness we want all of you to know that you have our united good wishes for the coming year.'' Signed ''Harry S. Truman'' in black ink. Single page letter on a sheet of card style stationery measures 7'' x 8.75''. Expected folds from mailing and faint toning along top edge. Includes original envelope. Near fine.
