Heavy barnacle-encrusted spike recovered from a sunken Spanish galleon. On 31 July 1715, a hurricane drove the treasure fleets into the reefs along the east coast of Florida, destroying 11 ships and killing nearly half of the 2,500 crew. Some of the ships' cargo was salvaged, but most of it remained on the ocean floor. Includes a COA by Cobb Coin Company which recovered the treasure in 1985, reading in part: ''...more than 14 million peso's in registered treasure was lost in one of the worst maritime disasters of all time...'' Approximately 2'' in diameter and 7'' long, weighing 4.5 lbs.
