Datelined 5 September 1768, Salisbury District, North Carolina, handwritten court document accuses one John Noland of ''...assault upon an John Stevens then and there being in the peace of God and our Sovereign Lord the King and him the said John Stevens then and there did Beat Wound and ill treat so that his life was greatly despaired of and then and there did other wrongs to the said John Stevens to his great Damage and against the peace of God and our Sovereign Lord the King his Crown and Dignity.'' Signed ''Will Hooper Atty...'' at the bottom. Single-page document measures approximately 7.5'' x 11''. Toning, chips to edges and archival tape repair to verso. In very good condition, especially given age.
