Very early 1947 book, ''McElligot's Pool'' written by the one and only, Dr. Seuss. Random House: New York: 1947. First edition, third printing with all points present, including the 7 line copyright notice, but with the fish's mouth closed on the cover, no writing on the spine, and with $2.50 price added to the bottom left corner of rear dust wrapper flap. A boy named Marco is told he can't catch anything in a polluted pool but his imagination creates all kinds of underwater possibilities. The illustrations by Dr. Seuss in this early 1947 book are shaded in colored pencil rather than his later pen and ink drawings. Some fading from the sun to the 8.25'' x 11.25'' green cloth boards with black lettering. Unclipped dustjacket has tears and chipping to top and bottom edges, though is protected in a laminate sheet. Former owner has inscribed verso of front free endapaper. Very good condition overall.
