H.L. Mencken autograph letter signed. Letter is penned upon Baltimore Sun stationery, the newspaper to which Mencken contributed his famous satirical columns from 1905-1948. Letter reads in part, ''My dear Doctor - Unluckily, I am chained to my desk and as the great pleasure of joining your party April 1 seems beyond me. But I shall be there by wireless. Let me suggest as a subject for debate: 'Which is the happier: the baby yet unborn, or the man just hanged?'...H.L. Mencken''. 2pp. letter on two sheets is matted and framed beneath a photo portrait of Mencken to an overall size of 19'' x 26.5''. Nicks and scratches to dark wood frame. Sheets have not been removed from frame but appear to measure approximately 5.25'' x 8.5'', with toning and some fading to ink, else near fine.
