Clarence Darrow typed letter signed accompanying his signed autobiography, ''Farmington'' published by Charles Scribner's Sons, New York: 1932. Darrow's autograph inscription to the front free endpaper reads in full, ''Inscribed / Harry Beardsley / With the kind regards of / Clarence Darrow / Fbry. 8th 1936''. Bound in blue cloth boards with gilt lettering, book runs 255pp. and measures 5.75'' x 8.25''. Toning to endpapers, very slight cocking to spine and an envelope affixed to the front pastedown, else near fine. Envelope houses the typed letter signed composed by Darrow upon his personal stationery. Written to Harry Beardsley on 6 March 1936, letter reads in part, ''Please excuse delaying acknowledging the most welcome and appreciated biography written by you...'Joseph Smith and His Mormon Empire' at last begun and already certain to enjoy beyond anything I have recently stumbled upon...I am sorry to be so tardy with this note, but being a man of leisure means laziness...and I let the little things of life keep me busier than ever the bigger ones did, I think...[signed] Clarence Darrow''. Single-page letter measures 6.5'' x 10.25''. Toning and creasing, else near fine.
