President Harry S. Truman typed letter signed on official White House stationery, dated 14 June 1945, just two months after the passing of President Roosevelt. Letter is addressed to American Legion member L.F. Spring and reads in full: ''Dear Mr. Spring, Your kind letter with that touching tribute to my lamented predecessor moved me deeply. I am sorry that the pressure of these busy days has prevented an earlier acknowledgement and I hope you and your associates will know how grateful I am for their thoughtfulness in assuring me of their support and cooperation. You, too, have my warm thanks for your good wishes and prayers.'' Signed clearly, ''Harry S. Truman''. Letter on one page of card-style stationery measures 7'' x 9''. Minor toning, else near fine.
