President Nixon typed letter signed on 9 November 1973, when the twin problems of Watergate and the Vietnam War threatened to overshadow his presidency. Here, Nixon thanks Congressman Bill Young for his support in voting against the War Powers bill, which passed the House despite Nixon's veto, increasing congressional control in foreign policy matters. Letter reads in part ''Despite the negative outcome of the House vote on November 7 to sustain my veto of the War Powers bill, your strong support on this important issue is greatly appreciated. I feel certain the test of time will prove your position a wise one, and I fervently hope the dangerous ramifications of this measure can be avoided...'' Signed with Nixon's initials ''RN'' on White House letterhead. 1pp. measures 6.75'' x 8.75''. Near fine.
