British-American starlet Jean Simmons plaid costume dress made for the 1954 historical film, "Desiree", though edited out from final version. Nominated for a wide range of awards in her career which spanned decades during the Golden Era of Hollywood, Simmons rose to fame quickly after wowing critics as Ophelia in Laurence Olivier's 1948 version of "Hamlet", for which she received her first Oscar nomination. "Desiree" was set in late 1700's France and the dress reflects the time period. Custom-made navy and plaid empire dress has a tartan plaid fabric top and hem along the bottom with a built-in corset; skirt is made of wool. Measures 16" shoulder to shoulder and 54" in length. Tag sewn to inseam reads: "1-27-7-8054A72562 / J. Simmons". Near fine. With a Gene London Costume Collection COA.
