Dwight D. Eisenhower autograph letter signed from Europe during WWII. He writes to his wife, Mamie, on 24 August 1942. It reads in part: ''Darling: Today I found out why I'd been so long without mail. Last eve & this morn I got 6 letters from you - one dated as long ago as July 16...It was fun reading them, even if I do have to do it in snatches between conferences. Even had a conference today while I was having my sandwich at my desk...Maj. Longfellow - in today (Monday) - says he had dinner with you Friday eve. Lucky day. Also says you look very well - which is a great relief to me. It's curious about [son] John's letters. I have had none - and how I'd like to hear from him!...Darling - stop worrying about me. The few women I've met are nothing - absolutely nothing compared to you, and besides I've neither the time nor the youth to worry about them. Loads of love...I love you - always / Yours / Ike''. Interestingly, it was almost exactly at the time of this letter that Eisenhower may have begun a relationship with his driver, Kay Summersby. 3pp. letter measures 6'' x 9''. Original mailing envelope is included. Near fine condition.
