National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences ''Distinguished Service'' medal presented to Hubbell Robinson, a pioneer in early TV as a CBS executive, writer and producer who developed ''I Love Lucy'' and ''Gunsmoke.'' He is also credited with improving racial integration in casting during a pivotal time in American culture. The Emmy icon of a winged woman holding an atom is the focal point of the obverse. She is flanked by ''New York'' and ''Hollywood'', indicating Robinson was uniquely honored by both the New York and Hollywood chapters of the Academy. Engraved text to the reverse lists some of his involvements: ''HUBBELL ROBINSON / Trustee 1957 / Trustee 1958-59 / Trustee 1959-60 / Trustee 1960-61 / Trustee 1961-62 / Representative To / United States / National Commission For UNESCO / 1961-62 / National Awards / Committee Alternate / 1961-62 / Editorial Board / Television Quarterly / 1961-62''. Very few Distinguished Service medals are awarded. Medal measures 3'' in diameter and weighs .4 of an lb with a lovely patina and comes housed in a custom wooden hinged box, with minor wear. Some minor tarnishing to coin as well. Very good to near fine overall.
