World-famous Italian opera singer Enrico Caruso hand-drawn self-portrait sketch. Ink drawing is likely of tenor Caruso in character, as were most of his caricature drawings. Best known for his signature role as Canio in ''Pagliacci,'' Caruso sang worldwide, counting Italian, German and French operas among his repertoire and enjoying a virtual residency at the New York Metropolitan Opera. More obscure was his passion for drawing, at which he became quite accomplished over his lifetime. Caruso's distinctive style is evident in this sketch, matted in white to an overall size of 10.5'' x 14.5''. Toning, especially along the bottom and pencil notation to lower right corner of mat, else near fine. From a larger collection of Caruso sketches.
