Upon White House stationery, Mrs. Nixon writes to Mrs. McNamara, wife of Vietnam-era Defense Secretary Robert McNamara, dating her letter 15 December 1971. At this point Robert McNamara was President of the World Bank. Letter reads in part, ''...We do indeed share a concerned interest in eliminating illiteracy and the conviction that reading is absolutely essential to every child's future success and happiness.
